Project & Yarn
I love this project for a few reasons. One, it’s simple. Two, it’s a cute and creative way to give a gift to someone. And three, I already had all the supplies needed to make these. The only exception is the pink tinsel tree I used to display the hearts. While it does make a cute décor piece, it’s absolutely not necessary. The Heart2Heart Crochet Pockets look equally charming all on their own. (Note: If you’re interested in the tree, I found mine on Amazon. Try searching “tabletop tinsel tree”).
I went shopping through my trusty yarn stash to select the yarn for this project. Since it requires just a small amount, I didn’t necessarily want to have to buy an entire new skein. Chances are, you might also have enough leftovers to use so definitely check and see what you already have. If you are going to pursue purchasing yarn for the Heart2Heart Crochet Pocket though, I would recommend selecting a 3 (Light) or 4 (Medium) yarn weight. These yarn weights will give enough shape and structure to the heart that it will hold well with a gift inside. This would also be the ideal recommendation when selecting from a yarn stash but always feel free to experiment.
Although I used the more traditional heart colors of red and pink, you could completely choose whatever colors suit your fancy. Being creative and making it uniquely yours makes it all the more special. If purple or teal is your deal, go for it! Again, check that yarn stash as a plethora of colors may await you.
The crochet hearts are stitched together using the whip stitch, while leaving an opening at the top to create a pocket and allow a small gift to be inserted inside. I made mine using a medium weight yarn with two rounds of crochet stitches. The pockets measure approximately 2 ½ x 2 ½. Looping a piece of yarn through both hearts at the top of the pocket, I tied a bow to finish off the gift (and hang like an ornament on the tinsel tree). Alternatively, you don’t have to make the pocket. You could just crochet one heart and use it as décor all on its own. Consider using it as an applique or stringing a bunch together to make a garland. And you could simply just do one round of crochet stitches to make a smaller sized heart.
I hope you enjoy crocheting the Heart2Heart (you know, two hearts are stitched together…😊) Crochet Pocket to your heart’s desire! Have fun finding those little gifts to put inside. Whatever you choose, your sweetheart will be totally smitten knowing they’ve been bitten by the love bug!
Keep Crocheting!

Notes
The magic circle* technique is used to create the circle that the stitches are crocheted around. Alternatively, you can ch 4 and sl st to the first ch to create a circle. Continue by crocheting the stitches into the circle.
The whip stitch* is used to sew the two hearts together.
(* If unfamiliar with this technique, simply do a quick Google search and there are plenty of videos/tutorials explaining how to do it).
Pattern
Make 2 – (1) heart for front of pocket and (1) heart for back of pocket
With yarn, make a magic circle. Ch 2. (Ch 2 counts as beginning ch).
Rnd 1: tr, tr, dc in next 4, tr, dc in next 4, tr, tr, hdc
Sl st in center of circle
Pull tail from magic circle to tighten and cinch the circle together
Sl st in 1st ch of beginning ch
Round 2: 2 dc in 2nd ch of beginning ch, 2 dc in next 2, dc in next 3, 1 dc and 1 tr in next, 1 tr and 1 dc in next, dc in next 3, 2 dc in next 3, hdc
Sl st in sl st made at the end of the first round
Finish off leaving enough of a tail to weave in.
Weave in both ends – the tail from the magic circle and the tail from the end of Round 2.
Assembly
With wrong sides held together and starting at the 4th ch from the top center of the heart (can begin on either left or right side), whip stitch (leaving a long tail for weaving in) through both the FL and BL of both hearts. I made approximately 3 whip stitches in each set of loops around. Continue to whip stitch around the hearts until reaching the 4th ch from the top center of the heart on the either side. Leaving a long enough tail for weaving in, finish off and cut the yarn. Weave in both ends.
At this point, a small gift can be inserted into the pocket. To secure the gift inside and complete the look, loop a length of yarn through the top center of both hearts and tie with a bow.
I hope you like making these crochet pockets and may they bring you many hugs and kisses…xoxo!
